There’s a certain level of fear and anxiety in any good adventure; the adrenaline rush, the overload of stimulation, the heart rush of doing something different and exciting. It also can be dead ass scary.

“What the hell have I done?” or “How the hell did I end up here?”  have been known to occur during many good adventures.  I’m not talking about the stupid shit we all do or have done that taxes our guardian angels and leaves us knowing without a doubt there was a divine interception that kept us safe. I’m talking about climbing out of that well-worn rut of familiarity and mediocrity.

Several people I did readings with over this past week are in the midst of reinventing themselves and their lives.  The Universal energies seem to be surging to encourage and support soul work, purpose, and sense of what we really came here to do. The first steps are seemingly a combination of trepidation, self-doubt and insecurity but also hit that core place of self-confidence and renewed hope that the dream really is possible.

Though the draw towards more self fulfillment and sense of purpose is affecting many with the strength of a gravitational pull, others are still bewildered and searching for what it is they want or need to do to answer their own unique calling. The sage advice of self-help gurus to do what you love and it will all fall into place is tempting and soothing albeit potentially unrealistic at times.  I agree wholeheartedly that discovering what brings joy and also fills the coffers is phenomenal and even life changing. Something I tell myself every morning now before I get up is: “Please guide me to how I can best be of service today.” Throughout the day if I start to waver or vacillate into fear based bullshit, I stop myself, take a breath, and say “I am here to be of service”.

I personally think our life purpose aligns with being of service.  Not necessarily in a woo-woo juju way but in however you bring your best self to the table.  A familiar rebuttal to this line of thinking is : “I can’t make any money doing that!”  Deepak Chopra offers some quick tips on generating money and wealth while living your purpose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHCvGw8vFOE

Deborah King states: “Being of service doesn’t have to include the big gestures you might be thinking about. You don’t have to quit your job and give up your life to join volunteers in a far-off area to help disaster victims, or donate your life savings to charity. You don’t have to work at a food bank or with at-risk teens, unless you want to. Being of service is not only about what you do, but also about how you do it. True service means that you are doing what you are meant to do, and doing it with compassion and love.”

One small action that inspires, uplifts, encourages or lends a hand causes a ripple effect of unknown proportions.  A variation of being of service is asking yourself how you’d like to help.  Not with the red flags of codependence but through using your talents to serve without resentment or irritation. If you feel you’re being of service but it’s pissing you off, that’s your red flag!  When you’re really being of service it comes with a sense of joy which radiates positive energy and healing. Service reliant on feeding your own ego is having an expectation of reward not contributing to the greater good. “You can bring the blessings of who you are to any situation simply through your loving and compassion. Smiling at people is a great service. Bring forth that place from within you that smiles upon the world and smiles with compassion upon someone in need.” – Princess Diana

Anne Naylor offers the following 4 steps to cultivating joy while being of service:

1. Cultivate attitudes of joy in yourself

2. Do more that brings you joy

3. Cultivate an attitude of serving others

4. Find out what others need – and commit some time to giving it

The simplicity in these steps is reflected through appreciation and feeling grateful for what you have in your life. The more you are truly in a place of service to others, the less you experience neediness and lack but instead foster a sense of well-being, happiness, and wealth. As the polarity of light and dark intensifies, finding how you can share your true spark of divine with others is the greatest gift any of us can bring to healing ourselves, each other, and this planet.

“Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
Martin Luther King, jr.
